In order to get your cows bred, they need to ovulate and we need to inseminate them right before they ovulate. We will offer different options to bring your cows into heat (estrus) either through the use of injectable hormones or natural heat detection. When you call us, we'll go over your options in detail so you can make the best decision for your herd or cow. Most of our new clients have never used artificial insemination before, so you're not alone. We will be by your side each step of the way.
Check out the video on the Info section of this page.
A lot less than keeping a bull! 😉
Each project quote is based off mileage and the type of project (hormone protocol vs natural heat) and the number of cows. Please call us today so we can build you a custom quote! (719) 999-8545
Absolutely! We receive dozens of tanks per year. The shipping facility will send a small shipper vapor tank, usually through UPS, and when it arrives we'll transfer the straws to our cryogenic tanks. We'll send the shipper tank back to the shipping facility at no further cost to you.
Most clients who have straws shipped to us use their straws within 1-2 years. The current annual fee for storage is $120 per year for 4 canes. If you're not planning on using your straws in the next year, we encourage you to set up an account with Rocky Mountain Sire Services in Bennet, Colorado for long term storage.
Yes! Moo-Maker keeps a wide variety of straws in our tanks exclusively for our clients' convenience. Check out our current inventory on the Bull Inventory link above. Straw prices vary so call us for details.
Unfortunately, the hormones we use to bring your cows into estrus will also cause an abortion in pregnant cows. We'll need to have your cows pregnancy checked before proceeding.
Moo-Maker offers on-farm blood pregnancy tests which can be used 6+ weeks post-breeding with results available in 20 minutes.
Alternatively, many veterinarians offer ultrasound pregnancy checks that can be done as early as 28 days post-breeding with definitive results.
While natural heat detection can technically be used to pregnancy check, current research shows that a third of pregnant cows will stand to be mounted by a bull or other cow. In addition, almost 6% of pregnant cows will display estrus signs that are indistinguishable to real estrus.
Yes! Your time is valuable so Moo-Maker offers a complete full service option. We'll select and provide the bull semen, procure the prescription hormones, administer every single injection, and pregnancy check your heard after breeding. We also offer other plans for clients based on their preferred involvement.
Definitely! Whether you have 1 cow or hundreds, we are here to get the job done!
